Nuclear Medicine

Explanation of Test:
In nuclear medicine radioactive dye is introduced into the body, where it gets incorporated in a specific tissue, organ or process and is then detected by an external device (gamma camera, SPECT or PET scanners) to provide information on organ function and cellular activity.

Prep for Exam:
If order indicates you will need to be NPO (no food after midnight).
Doses are timed so you need to show up on time.
If cancelation is absolutely necessary please contact ASAP to prevent the hospital from having to dispose of a costly radioactive dose.
