Massac Memorial Hospital is granted an Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Systems Ambulance Staffing Waiver

Tuesday, April 24, 2020, Metropolis, IL - Massac Memorial Hospital has been granted an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Systems Ambulance Staffing Waiver to allow them to bring on additional Emergency Medical Responders to ensure that Massac EMS is adequately staffed and can reliably provide 24-hour Ambulance service during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Massac Memorial Hospital CEO, Rick Goins, states that these first responders are on the front lines every day providing emergency medical services to our community, which increases their risk of exposure to the Novel Coronavirus COVID-19. These heroes bravely put themselves in harm’s way to ensure that our community is cared for and can access emergency healthcare services. By adding additional capacity, these Emergency Medical Responders will have the responsibility of driving the ambulances to allow for our EMT’s and Paramedics to focus their time on the patients and to get adequate rest. This additional staffing will also give us the ability to maintain ambulance services in the event that one of our EMS Team Members becomes ill and needs to be quarantined for a period of time.
